Giving thanks today - tremendous gratitude for all the likes and wonderful comments from my Art Friends.....as some of you know, this has not been an easy year for me but as of this morning I am still here in my little studio in Tesuque, have just had a delicious cup of coffee and am getting ready to set up a new palette in preparation to sit down at the easel and paint for most of the day. Your kindness and support have made all the difference in my life these past eleven months. Wishing each and every one love and peace - thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Studio No. 2615 - LA SENDA DESCONOCIDO - 22"x28" Work in Progress (Glazes).  Color notes: Glazes are the transparent or semi-transparent oil colors applied over the underpainting.  This step in my process adds depth to the final painting.  Sky: Cobalt Blue, Cerulean, Thalo.  Mountains: Darks - Prussian Blue and Burnt Sienna.  Lighter areas: Chrome Oxide Green, Yellow Ochre.  Brush: Combinations of Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, some sky colore, Dioxazine Purple and Prussian Blue.  Road:  Holbein Rose Grey and Yellow Ochre.

HOMENAJE A LA VIDA....

Homenaje a la Vida - A very large painting I did years ago - Mexican women mourning - honoring the lives of loved ones now gone. I love the strength of these women - the power in their faces - the way they have come together. Lighting a candle today..... This painting was purchased by Jack and Bill, the founders of Artisan/Santa Fe when they first opened their store - and as far as I know was passed along and still resides in Santa Fe.

Studio No. 2315 - NIGHTSKY WANDERERS - New 40"x40" Work in Progress (Glazes) - Color Notes:  Working glazes over the thoroughly dry underpainting.  Glazes are oils (usually the darker colors) thinned  to a medium transparency with painting medium (not turpentine).  Foreground:  Darkest darks are Prussian Blue, Burnt Sienna, Olive Green, some Italian Pink.  Middle ground:  Scumbling over the darker blue underpainting with a fairly dry bristle brush - Naples Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Permalba white, Rose Red and some Cadium Red.

Studio No. 1915 - PUESTA DEL SOL - 40"x40" Work in Progress (Underpainting) - Color Notes:  All colors blocked in mixing oils with Grumbacher MG Underpainting White and Distilled Turpentine.  Foreground:  Yellow Ochre and Cobalt Blue.  Trees:  Chrome Oxide Green Opaque, some Burnt Sienna and Cobalt Blue.  Darker Sky:  Dioxazine Purple, Cobalt Blue, some Cadmium Red and Thalo Red Rose.  Lighter sky:  Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Thalo Red Rose.  Grayer areas:  Lighter sky colors mixed with Davy's Grey - a "dirty brush".  Blue Sky:  Cerulean Blue and MG White. It has been very humid lately due to heavy rains - this underpainting needs to dry for about a week to ten days before I go into it with oil painting medium which contains some turpentine.
