IN THE STUDIO - PREPARING MY CANVASES

5/8/21 (Llano Quemado, N.M.) - A Toned Ground. Preparing to Paint. Mix in aluminum can (not plastic!) - I use Jerry's Gesso (Artarama), acrylic Payne's Grey and water - not too thck and not to thin.  It usually takes two coats for a good ground. I like a medium grey.  Apply second coat only after the first is completely dry.  A good start today!!!!

Glazes are usually the dark colors on your palette thinned to a transparency with painting medium.  Middle tones are a mixture of opaque colors and glazes. Color Notes:  Sky: Permalba wite, Cerulean Blue.  Hills: Holbein Portland warm greys, Dioxazine Purple, Paynes Grey. Foliage; Yellow Ochre, Gold Ochre, Burnt Sienna.  Holbein Green grey, Chrome Oxide Green Opaque. Water: Permalba White, Cerulean Blue, Paynes Grey, Chrome Oxide Green Opaque - some Prussian Blue and Burnt Sienna for darkest Glazes.
