YELLOW MUMS - Underpainting

14 October 2008 --YELLOW MUMS --28"x22" Oil on Belgian Linen. Here is the first underpainting of my winter work. It's raining today -- chilly, cold -- know it's snowing on Taos Mountain.....Just thought I'd start out with something bright and cheerful. The colors are mixed with fast-drying Foundation White -- highlights on the flowers - Cadmium Yellow Light, then Cad. Yellow Medium - down to Ochre and then a dirty brush mixed with Diox. Purple. The background is Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre and Cobalt Blue. This canvas will have to dry for about ten days before I can work into it with the glazes. Stay tuned! -- DC

WINTER IS A COMIN'!

9 October 2008 -- Yep, winter is a comin' and my supply of paints, turps and brushes have arrived from Jerry's Artarama! My Santa Fe show is scheduled for May 22, 2009, but photography of the larger paintings needs to be done in January in order to meet advertising schedules -- and the work will be delivered to McLarry Gallery at the end of March, early April for pre-sale. In the meantime I will try to add to this web log two or three times a week in order to post my progress -- or the lack of it. You are invited to stay tuned -- I am excited about getting into these new canvases........DC
